Equine Surgery
The Partners Jonathan Wainwright and Alex Font carry out a variety of routine and emergency surgery here at the clinic. Jonathan’s skill with colic cases has developed over 18 years and his experience in this area of surgery is unrivalled in the region.
Alex’s nimble dexterity and attention to detail has earned him a reputation for septic joints and wound debridement.
The Surgical Unit
The theatre is equipped with a fully adjustable supportive operating table and hydraulic winch system. The unit has a dedicated knock down room with purpose built padded floor and walls to ensure safe and effective anaesthesia.
Anaesthesia
Equine anaesthesia is considered a much more demanding process than anaesthesia of say a dog or a cat. The size and anatomical structure of a horse or pony demands specialist understanding and experience to ensure a safe and successful recovery. The team at Bearl Equine has a reputation for excellence in this field and we are proud of our high survival rate.
Post-Operative Care
Following surgical intervention the vets and nursing team at the clinic concentrate on helping the patient through the critical post-operative period. Intensive nursing starts the minute the patient recovers from anaesthesia and continues until the patient is well enough to leave for home.
