Laser Surgery - Effective Sarcoid Removal

Sarcoid removal can be frustrating, especially when repeated visits from the veterinary surgeon are necessary to apply medication for the purpose. It can be time consuming and expensive when multiple sarcoids are present.

Laser Sarcoid Removal

Fortunately Bearl Equine Clinic is now able to offer effective laser surgery for sarcoid removal. The state of the art equipment allows partner Jonathan Wainwright MRCVS to laser around nodular sarcoids to completely and effectively remove them.

What does treatment involve

Patients must visit the clinic for surgery which is carried out in our treatment room at the rear of the clinic. Here we are able to make use of the purpose built stocks to confine and support the patient during surgery. The horse or pony is sedated using IV sedatives and the area for surgery is prepared. Normally treatment is complete within twenty to thirty minutes. The patient is then given time to shake off the sedation and in most cases is fit for travel within an hour. Occasionally with extensive or multiple sarcoids it may be necessary for the horse or pony to remain with the clinic staff overnight for observation. The veterinary surgeon may or may not send the patient home with antibiotics and pain relief depending on the individual case.

How can I get my horses sarcoid removed

It is usually necessary to have the vet examine a patient prior to admission to confirm the sarcoid is suitable for laser surgery. In some cases we are able to confirm suitability by photograph. If you are not a client at Bearl Equine Clinic ask your own veterinary surgeon to refer your horse for treatment. Estimates are available on request.
